A HOSPICE or STEP DOWN FACILITY

WHAT IS A HOSPICE?

This is residential care for those diagnosed with a terminal illness and who cannot be cared for in the community.

Hospice means a place of rest for travelers (Latin). In a modern hospice – it is a place of rest for those traveling their final earthly journey.

Aids patients, both adults and babies/children can be referred to a hospice. The maximum stay is usually 2 weeks for adults.

WHAT IS A STEP-DOWN FACILITY?

This is residential care for those diagnosed with a terminal illness. A person may be referred to a Step Down facility if the family needs a break from caring for the patient. The maximum stay is usually 2 weeks.
